I stand corrected

March 13, 2010 § 11 Comments

The first time I ever listened to…. Vampire Weekend was in my oldest sister’s convertible Volkswagen beetle in the first hour of being in Los Angeles about a year ago. I arrived after sunset on an evening warm enough to keep the top down. An airplane flew right over our heads while listening to One (Blake’s got a new face).

The first time I ever listened to…. Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros I fell in love with the sound. Some sexy chump played it on the computer, while sexy chump number 2 started singing the words. Sexy chump number 1 sang along, as I sat there listening with a fat grin on my face. I guess I lost my voice at a perfect time, because I would’ve attempted to sing if I had my voice, and everyone knows it is always awkward trying to sing a song you don’t know the words too. Thank you, Buddha!

Bob Dylan saved my life sophomore year. He kept me from making a huge mistake. On the way home from a certain park in a mini van, one fine Saturday evening, this good-looking punk put in a Bob Dylan cassette into the tape player. The first song to play was of course All I Really Want to Do by good ol’ Bob. “All I really want to doooo, is baby be friends with you”. I got the idea, yet my heart wasn’t broken at all. Thank you, Buddha squared!

Looked up Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes and LOVE them! Great taste in music my friend! Also, thank you for the comment on the blog! 😀

  • Desiree says:

Do you like Vampire Weekend? I love them a lot more, but I’m glad to have spread Edward Sharpe to someone.. you’re welcome!

  • dillan4c says:

Yes! Vampire Weekend is pretty awesome! I’m a bit more towards Edward Sharpe though. Haha. I have some bad memories associated with Vampire Weekend. It’s a shame… I know…

  • Desiree says:

oh NO! That’s terrible. I have really good memories associated with them. That’s funny how our minds work that way sometimes

  • dillan4c says:

Haha, yeah… sad too… in my case, a girl whose favorite band was Vampire Weekend like totally screwed me over… hasn’t really been the same since. And I also like Edward Sharpe because it takes a TON of talent to incorporate that many people into a band! Plus they have awesome beards… I love beards… I had to shave mine off though. I might make a blog post about that actually. I really wish I would have been alive during the hippy days… and Edward Sharpe is pretty hippy! Haha.

  • Desiree says:

god, I’ve always wished I grew up in the 60s. Such a crazy and different time. well, that’s too bad. But Edward Sharpe is a well qualified replacement for Vampire Weekend then 🙂 Beards are pretty sick. Of course I can’t and wouldn’t want to grow a beard if I could, since you know, I have a lot of estrogen in me! haha.

  • dillan4c says:

The 60s, when people were actually alive… lol. Haha, yeah, I’d stick to no beard. I think it suits you better.

  • Desiree says:

yeah, I think so too.. hahaha! so you make didgeridoos?

  • dillan4c says:

Yeah! Well, right now I’m actually kind of an apprentice of sorts. I work with a guy to sell them. He makes them. I’m in the middle of making my first one right now though. It’s a pretty weird/difficult process but it’s fun. I love making things!

  • Desiree says:

that’s so dope. I’ve tried playing? my friends didgeridoo and it was difficult.. I’m sure you’re an expert.. but that’s totally cool

  • dillan4c says:

Haha, no, not really an expert… I can play though 🙂 It’s tricky to get at first but it gets easier. I wish I could say the same about life… haha.
